WBCHSE English Semester Syllabus 2024 [Revised] Class 11
West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or WBCHSE has changed the curriculum for class 11 for academic year 2024-25. A semester system has been introduced as a major change. In this post we are going to discuss the new semester – wise syllabus and curriculum of English (Second language) class 11 in details.
In the new curriculum the syllabus has been completely changed. The new syllabus is designed for an overall development of the students. In the new syllabus the focus is evenly distributed among developing skills like speaking, listening, reading and writing. For that various activities like group discussions, debate and oral presentations are added in the curriculum. Additionally, reading comprehension, writings and grammar has also received equal importance in the syllabus.
Structure of the course
There will be two semesters in class 11 each carrying 40 marks and there will a project for 20 marks.

In this section there will be 1 question for 2 marks.
[2 questions will be given from transformation of sentences and correction of errors, out of which 1 has to be attempted]

In this section students have to fill up 6 blanks each for 0.5 marks from the topics covered.

UNIT 5: WRITING SKILL
In this section the writing skills of the students will be tested.
Students have to write one paragraph of 150 word for 10 marks [10×1 = 10]
Or,
One formal letter and one event report each of 75 words having 5 marks. [05×2 = 10]

Total marks: 20
Time allotted: Can be done during the course of semester 1 and 2.

Syllabus:
Listening and speaking activity: This can be done through understanding live or recorded oral presentation, group discussions, debates and interviews.
Writing activity: Students will be asked to write on a topic chosen by the concerned teacher from the following themes – a) health and fitness b) film and drama c) technology and innovation d) local festivals and traditions.
