1.) How did the ghost get into the Brahman’s house in village?
Answer. The poor Brahman became shortage of money after his wedding took place. He had no money or basic resources to support his mother and newly-wed wife. He had no other means to earn money at his own village. So, he had to leave house and go to distant countries for earning money somehow and support his family. He said that he would not return for years until make lots of money. He took his mother’s blessings and set forth on his travelling. On that day in evening, a ghost assumed his exact appearance and got into the house. The Brahman’s wife doubted and asked him why he returned home early. The ghost replied that it was not a lucky day and he had already earned some money. That was his trick and he made her believe in his words successfully. The mother did not doubt and the ghost started living in their house as its owner. The ghost and the Brahman were like each other in every way so neighbours also did not doubt about their identity. In this way, the ghost got into the Brahman’s village house, spent years living with his mother and wife.
2.) How did the poor Brahman manage to marry his bride?
Answer. The poor Brahman found it hard to get married in the society for not being Kulin. So, he had to arrange good sum of money to marry a wife. For that he went to rich people and begged them for giving him money. He needed a large sum of money not for the marriage expenses but for giving to the bride’s parents. He roamed from door to door within village and begged money to every household. He succeeded to arrange the required amount of money finally after flattering many rich folks within family. From his struggle of arranging money we get the image of contemporary society. People used to be so worried if they did not have enough money to give bride’s parents in order to marry their daughter. The village Brahman was poor and his difficult situation forced him to even beg for arranging money. In this way, that poor Brahman got money and his wedding took place at the right time. After that he brought his wife to his mother.
3.) Why did the poor Brahman have to leave home and go another country?
Answer. The poor Brahman did not have enough money even to get married. He had to visit from door to door and beg for money to arrange the required amount for giving to bride’s parents. After spending all money in the marriage expenses he was left with nothing. Shen he reached home with his newly married wife he faced difficulties to fulfil basic needs. Then he shared with his mother that he had left with nothing to support his wife and mother. So, he had to go far away countries to earn for their living. Due to lack of resources and options of earning money the poor Brahman had to go to distant countries where he will get ample opportunities.
4.) How did the king behave when the Brahman went to him for judgement?
Answer. When the poor Brahman returned home after some years he found the ghost Brahman in his house living with his family. He was in shock and wondered what to do to get rid of that situation. He came to know that everyone in the village including his family believed that the ghost was the actual Brahman. At last he went to the king’s palace to sort out the problem of finding out the original person. The king also got confused to see the ghost and the Brahman as reflection of each other. The king also became confused and did not find suitable way to resolve the matter. The Brahman went to the king every day to get back his house, mother and wife and the king postponed the issue for the following day every time. The Brahman had to hear ‘come tomorrow’ every day and he went back weeing and covered his face with palm in disgust. He started feeling miserable about his cursed life and could not found way to get over of it.
5.) How did the neat herd king helped Brahman to get rid of ghost Brahman?
Answer. The king used to pass a place everyday on his way back from the king’s court. Many cowboys gathered to the place and used to play while their cows graze. One cowboy was elected king among them along with vizier, prime minister, kotwal, police and others. Every day they used to see the Brahman weeping on his way while passing by. One day the cowboy king ordered his constable to call the Brahmin and listened his sad story. After listening the entire story the neat herd king asked the Brahman to take permission from the king about deciding his case. The Brahman went to king and prayed for his majesty to give permission to the neat herd king about deciding his case. The neat herd king arranged a trick for the ghost next morning. He asked both the ghost and the Brahman to enter a phial with a small neck. He knew that it would be possible to enter only for the ghost. The ghost turned himself into a small creature and entered the phial. Then the neat herd king corked up the mouth of the phial and asked the Brahman to throw it into the sea. The Brahman did so and get back all his possession from the capture of the ghost. By this trick the poor Brahman got back his home, his wife and mother after all.
