Speech essay on Sarojini Naidu’s Birth Anniversary – 13th February
I wish a very good morning to the principal, respected teachers and fellow students of my school. Today we have come to celebrate 144th birth anniversary of Sarojini Naidu. I want to share a small note about the significance of the event.
Sarojini Naidu was a renowned poet and political activist who contributes in India’s freedom movement immensely. Naidu was born to a Bengali family on 13th February, 1879 in Hyderabad. The patriotic writings of Naidu had left an intense impression on India’s freedom movement. Sarojini Naidu was famous as a national warrior and social activist who tried to secure the rights and dignity of women. Therefore, the birthday of Sarojini Naidu is celebrated as ‘National Women’s Day’.
Naidu was an ardent admirer of Mahatma Gandhi and joined Indian National Congress to participate in the freedom movement. Naidu was elected as the first female President of Indian National Congress in 1925. Naidu participated in Civil Disobedience Movement and Quit India Agitation and got arrested in 1942. Naidu was elected as the first Governor of Uttar Pradesh right after the independence of India in 1947. The imagery power and lyrical intensity of Naidu’s poetry led her to earn the title ‘Nightingale of India’ by Mahatma Gandhi. Some of Naidu’s famous literary works are The Magic Tree, Death of the Spring, The Bird of Time: Songs of Life, The Wizard’s Mask and so on. Naidu took her last breath on 2nd March, 1949 in Lucknow.
The main aim of celebrating Naidu’s birth anniversary is to pay tribute to her immense struggle for protecting women’s right and dignity. Naidu had fought for women empowerment and social equality. The celebration of National Women’s Day helps to find out social, financial and political achievements of women in modern ear.
