a.) Find out from the above table the price of cauliflower and bitter gourd in shop -1 and shop -2.
Ans. Prices Of cauliflower and bitter gourd in shop 1 and 2 are –
Shop 1 –
Cauliflower- Rs. 100
Bitter gourd- Rs. 80
Shop 2 –
Cauliflower- Rs. 50

b.) What is the difference in price of cauliflower between shop l and 2?
Ans. The price of cauliflower in shop 1 is Rs. 100 and Rs. 50 in shop 2. So the difference between the prices is Rs. 50 ( Rs. 100- Rs. 50 = Rs. 50)
c.) Which vegetable is the most expensive and which is the least expensive?
Ans. Cauliflower from shop 1 is the most expensive vegetable and Coriander (dhaniya saag) from shop 2 is the least expensive vegetable.
Why do you think there is a difference in prices of vegetables in the two shops of the same haat? Share your views with your friends and teacher.
Ans. There is a difference in prices of vegetables in the two shops due to different reasons like –
1.) The vegetables in both the shops may not be procured from the same place.
2.) One shop may grow the vegetables themselves, so they must make the price higher to earn enough money.
3.) The quality of the vegetables may be different in both the shops.

Ans. Animals help farmers in growing crops. Ox help in pulling the plough, which loosens the topsoil of the field. Cows provide cow dung and urine which is used for making organic manure and vermicompost. Earthworms help in composting organic material into vermicompost, which is used during farming.
Name some plants which are used as medicine for humans, animals and also used as insect repellents in farming.
Ans. Neem, garlic and pyrethrum are some plants which can be used as medicine for humans, animals and also used as insect repellents in farming.

What will happen to farming if all insects like honey bees, butterflies are killed by the use of poison?
Ans. If all insects like honey bees, butterflies are killed, then farming will be impacted negatively. Pollination will not occur naturally and farmers will have to use more money for the process. Soil health will also be affected. There will also be a loss of biodiversity.
What will happen to the birds and small animals when they eat these poisoned insects?
Ans. If the birds and small animals eat these poisoned insects, then the poison will enter them too and they will fall sick. It will be very dangerous to their life.
You have read in Chapter 5 (All About Animals) about how animals from the forest destroy crops.
How can we solve this problem and help farmers like Chintamani?
Ans. Different methods can be used to solve the problem and help farmers like Chintamani-
1.) Setting up an exclusive area around farms for the animals to feed on.
2.) Planting more trees to grow the forest.
3.) Setting up high fences around the farm so that animals cannot get in.
Aman has thought of different ways in which the wild animals could be stopped from coming to Chintamani’s farm. Which of these do you think is the best way? Write your reasons also.
l.) Kill all wild animals.
2.) Move the wild animals into far off forest areas.
3.) Stop farming.
4.) Maintain spaces for wild animals by not disturbing the forest areas.
Ans. The best option is option no. 4. This is because it is easy to implement and will not require too much manpower to do the work.
It is very difficult for Chintamani to get Khetala to help him. Can you suggest other ways to help farmers like
Chintamani? Discuss with your classmates and teacher. Write these suggestions in your notebook.
Ans. One of the ways to help farmers like Chintamani would be setting up volunteer service by the government where people will get paid to help in farms. Another method can be using machinery which is provided by the government or organizations.
Why do you think people do not like farming?
Ans. People do not like farming because it is a very tough job and many times enough money cannot be earned to provide for the family.
Why is it not so easy to grow organic vegetables?
Ans. It is not easy to grow organic vegetables as it takes a lot of time to grow such vegetables. Since no chemicals and artificial manure are used in organic vegetables take their natural time to grow. The organic manure also needs time to be prepared properly.
Why do organic vegetables cost more?
Ans. Organic vegetables cost more as it takes a lot of time, effort and money to grow the vegetables. Since organic vegetables take time to grow, the farmers cannot grow many vegetables in a short period. So, the farmers must earn back enough money to sustain their families as well as use the money for growing vegetables again.
