l.) Where do you think that the father and children live? Why do you think so?
Ans, I think the father and children live in the city. This is because they seem very surprised by different things that they see in the village.
2.) What kind of roads do you see in the bustee?
Ans. The roads in the bustee are pebbled roads. They are not made of cement, stones and tar.
3.) Why do you think the person is holding a model of a factory?
Ans. The person is holding a model of a factory so that people can see what the factory will look like. This will help the person make other villagers agree with the construction of the factory.
4.) What are the three children in the picture talking about? If you were one of them, how would you feel if a medicine factory were set up in your village?
Ans. The three children are talking about the setting up of a medicine factory near the paddy fields in the village. If I was one of them and a medicine factory was set up in my village, I would feel both sad and happy. I will feel happy as people from the village will have jobs. I will feel sad because there will be more pollution in the village due to the factory.
5.) Who will be happy if the factory is built in the bustee? Why?
Ans. The people of the bustee who are looking for jobs will be happy if the factory is built in the bustee. This is because they will be able to earn money for themselves and their families with the help of the job.
6.) Why are the bustee children not happy?
Ans. The bustee children are not happy because the factory will cause more noise, dust and smoke in the bustee. It will damage the beauty of the bustee.
7.) Did you notice that the vegetable stall on page 27 does not have a rate chart for the different vegetables? How do you think people pay for their vegetables? Make a rate chart to help the seller earn the correct amount each time someone makes a purchase!
Ans. The people pay for their vegetables by putting money in the box kept at the stall. People pay the amount of money which must have been agreed upon by the villagers amongst themselves.
