NCERT Class 6 English Grammar Genders of Noun: There are four genders of Nouns.
- Masculine Gender– Masculine gender refers to a male figure, i.e. boy, father Actor, king, etc.
- Feminine Gender- Feminine gender is used to refer to the female figure i.e. woman, girl, hen, mother, etc.
- Neuter Gender– Neuter gender is used to refer to non living and lifeless things. i.e. Table, Book, table, chair, etc.
- Common Gender- Common gender refers to either a male or female sex. i.e. Student, Lawyer, Bird, Calf, Child, Soldier, Doctor, Deer, Servant, Teacher, Person, Cousin, Friend, Enemy.

Please note, we classify common gender as either male or female.
For example, if we take an example of a soldier (Common gender), they can be either male or female.
The word “soldier” does not specify any gender. Because it is a profession. So to specify the gender, we have to use nouns such as man or woman.
Also, we have to use the noun to specify a particular gender as Male or female when it depends on physical characteristics.
Based on Profession (Gender)
Though soldiering is a profession so it will always take either Man or Woman to express gender details.
Example-
Soldier (Profession ) Man Soldier Woman Soldier
Doctor (Profession ) Man Doctor Woman Doctor
Here, in general talks, sometimes people address a female who is a doctor by profession as a lady doctor to show or give more respect. But it is not accurate grammatically.
Based on male or female physical Characteristics (Gender) –
When something is depend upon mans or womans physical characteristics, in that case, we can use male female
Example,
Shoes – Male shoes, female shoes,
Watch – Male watch, Female watch
Dress – Male dress, Female dress
Accessory – Male accessory, Female accessory
- Also, please note, the country name (Canada, Germany, India), The moon, The earth, The spring, A ship, and The soul, these all are referred as feminine gender.
