Everyone knows about magnet.
Do you like to play with it? Do you know a story about origin of magnet?
The magnet is a natural substance which has some properties:
- It has two poles one is north pole and another is South pole
- Like poles of magnet repel each other and unlike poles of magnet attract each other.
- We cannot separate two poles of magnet or mono pole of magnet does not exist.
- When we suspend a bar magnet In air by string then it willstable at only North and South direction.
- The end towards north direction is a north pole of magnet and the end towards south direction is a south pole of magnet
- The chemical formula of magnet is Fe₂o₃.
- Magnet creates magnetic field around it.
- We can also manufacturer magnet with the help of electric current and that magnet is called electromagnet.
Magnetic field: The area around magnet in which magnet create it’s influence are called magnetic field.
If any magnetic substance are put in magnetic field then the magnetic field apply force on it and it moves according to that force.Iron, steel, cobalt and nickel are magnetic substance.
To understand magnetic field, we perform an experiment.
- Take a plain paper.
- Put a bar magnet on it.
- Sprinkle some iron pieces around magnet randomly.
- Tap a paper continuously and observe the pattern of iron pieces.
- The arrangement of iron pieces becomes as shown in figure.
The lines are forms around the magnet are called magnetic field.
The filed lines has some properties
- Magnetic filed lines are continuous. They form a close loop. We can not say where is the original and where is the end of magnetic field lines.
- Direction of magnetic field lines outside the magnet is from North Pole to south pole and inside the magnet is from South pole to north pole.
- Magnetic field lines do not cross each other.
- The magnetic field is strong where they are crowded and the magnetic field is weak at the lines are far from each other. In Simple way, density of field lines gives the strength of magnetic field.
- Magnetic field lines are imaginary.
- The direction of magnetic is tangential to magnetic field lines.
