As in the last concept, we came to know about the circulatory system. Lets understand one more interesting fact about human body that is lymphatic system. The lymphatic system also called as lymphoid system. This lymphatic system is a network of tissues and transporting the lymph throughout the body.
Functions of lymphatic system :
- It removes the cellular debris from the body.
- Protection of body from invading pathogen.
- The lymphatic system is considered as part of immune system.
- It helps to protect from disease and infections.
This lymphatic system is generally a part of immune system. There are various part of the body working in lymphatic system.
1.) Primary Lymphoid organ :
The primary lymphoid organs are bone marrow and thymus. They play very important role in lymphatic system.
Functions of primary lymphoid organs
- To synthesize and maturation of cells of immune system.
- Provide growth factors for maturation.
- Bone marrow :Bone marrow are one type of tissue that is present in the bones. The synthesis of all the immune cells takes place in bone marrow. Heamatopoiesis process takes place in bone marrow. Heamatopoesis can be defined as synthesis of all blood cells. This bone marrow contains B cells that is bone marrow cells. These B cells functions in antibody formation, which helps to resist the infection.
- Thymus :The organ is present in the upper part of chest, playing major role in immune system. Thymus contains T cells. These T cells produced in bone marrow but mature in thymus. Thymus will reach to its maximum size at the age of puberty and will decrease in size when the age increases. T cells differentiation takes place in thymus. These T cells play major role in building up the immune system.
2.) Secondary lymphoid organ :
The secondary lymphoid organs contains spleen and lymph nodes. These secondary lymphoid organs functions as trapping or destroying the foreign substances or antigens from the body.
Functions of secondary lymphoid organs :
- To destroy the pathogens.
- Filtration of blood.
- Provides non specific immunity.
1.) Spleen :These organ is present in the left abdominal cavity. The function of spleen to filtrate the blood and prevent the infection from invading pathogens. Spleen resist the pathogens. The spleen contains red pulp and white pulp. The red pulp have function to destroy the old and defective RBC. Whereas white pulp, helps in trapping the foreign substances.
2.) Lymph nodes :It is also a secondary lymphoid organ. Lymph nodes are generally present in neck, armpits, underarm. The lymph nodes are commonly a swollen glands. They play major role in resisting the infection. They catch the pathgens like virus , bacteria and fungus and prevent the infection.
Question and answers :
1.) What is lymphatic system ?
Answer :- The lymphatic system also called as lymphoid system. This lymphatic system is a network of tissues and transporting the lymph throughout the body.
2.) What are the functions of lymphatic system ?
Answer :-Functions of lymphatic system :
- It removes the cellular debris from the body.
- Protection of body from invading pathogen.
- The lymphatic system is considered as part of immune system.

3.) What are the parts of lymphatic system ?
Answer :- There are 2 major parts of lymphatic system : primary lymphoid organs and secondary lymphoid organs. The primary lymphoid organs divided into 2 parts such as bone marrow and thymus. The secondary lymphoid organs divided into 2 types such as spleen and lymph nodes.
