In the science, we have seen many chapters and interesting topic related to plants, water, air, human body, movement in animals etc. Let’s move to the next one more interesting topic that is garbage. Lets start the discussion with some basic questions which you have to answer on the basis of your general knowledge.
Apply your knowledge :

9.) What is gaseous waste ?
Answer :The gases which are release from industries causes a major problem such as breathing problems, air pollution can be caused.
10.) What are the methods of garbage disposal ?
Answer :- These are 3 R, landfill and compost.
As, we all are aware of the growing population of world. Increase in the population of world that means the amount of garbage is also increasing. Garbage or it can also be called as waste.
Waste can be defined as any unwanted material or disused material called as waste. The waste generated from various sources such as household, industrial, agricultural that means every process on earth creates the waste. Some types of waste are toxic for living beings.
Sources of waste :
1.) Domestic waste :
The waste which is generated in house, buildings, apartments. Household waste contain kitchen waste such as vegetables, fruit, glass, paper and plastic, bathroom waste such as toilet waste, soap water, hair, plastic pouches etc are the waste that is generated from house.
2.) Industrial waste :
The waste that is generated from various industries, so industries like various factories that is food, cloths and chemicals. It contains various heavy metals and toxic compounds. These industrial waste is a major issue worldwide because it affects the health og plants, animals and humans.
3.) Agriculture waste :
Agriculture waste generated from various farms and poultry houses. Use of various pesticides can cause major health problem if we consume the fruit, vegetable unwashed.
Therefore the disposal of this all kinds of waste is amajor problem. But waste classification is important for better disposal.
Classification of waste
The garbage or waste can be divided into 3 types.
1.) Solid Waste : Solid waste can be defined as the waste or garbage present in solid form that is generated from houses, industry, from garden called as solid waste. For example : plastic, vegetables, fruits etc.
2.) Liquid waste :Liquid waste that is any waste that is present in liquid form such as waste water, oil, expired juices and various drinks. The water produced from bathrooms, toilet and various industries. This waste can be toxic to humans, animals and plants life.
3.) Gaseous waste : The gases which are release from industries causes a major problem such as breathing problems, air pollution can be caused.
Therefore the disposal of waste is important to prevent the diseases and pollution and major problems due to any kind of waste.
Disposal of garbage
Disposal of garbage means collection of waste, it’s processing and recycle of waste called as disposal of garbage. As we know waste is classified on the basis of state and sources, so every type of waste needs other treatment or disposal technique. So let’s see common techniques to carry out disposal. As given in chart.
1.) 3 R :It is one of the technique for disposal, so what is mean by 3 R ? So, this 3 R means it is made up of 3 words such as Reuse, Recycle and Reduce. So lets discuss one by one.
- Reuse :The waste which can be used again, that means you can make use of old things that you have. For example : toys, old books.
- Recycle :The waste that you can use again after the treatment called recycle, that means after the treatment you can use the material. For example : Cloths, paper.
- Reduce : Reduce means you can decrease the amount of waste you generate. For example : buy only the things that you need
2.) Landfill :
Landfill means bury the unwanted material that can be toxic or have bad smell. This landfilling is generally placed far away from the places you live. To avoid health problems. All the garbage is thrown in deep layer of earth and buried. Within deep buried layer there is no oxygen so it causes the release of gases.
3.) Composting :
Composting can be defined as decomposing the larger complex organic material into simpler material within the soil and then that can used as fertilizer for plants. As given in diagram.
