a.) What were the causes of the first Moamoriya rebellion?
Ans. During the reign of Swargadeo Lakhmi Singha in around 18th century, the Shakta cult of Hinduism started to reinvent themselves. The custom of cremating dead bodies began and the custom of the Deodhais were being given up. Hindu rituals were gaining importance and the Vaishnavite Mahantas were very powerful and belonged to the upper class of the society. Kirti Chandra Borbaruah who was a strict official in the court of Swargadeo was also an ardent follower of Shakta cult. He insulted the Moamoriya Mahanta in front of the King and as a result of this ill treatment the Moamoriyas planned to take revenge. This resulted in the first Moamoriya rebellion in which they defeated the king but soon the royal army suppressed the rebels.
b.) What were the causes of the third Burmese invasion?
Ans. The kingdom of Assam was ruled by the Burmese General Mingimaha as the Swargadeo Chandra Kanta Singha was a weak king. The Burmese followed their own rules and regulations and the condition of the people was not very good. Slowly the King wanted to break himself free from the Burmese control. When the General was in Burma, the King tried to close the borderbetween Assam and Burma. The Burmese King Bagidowa attacked Assam as a result. This was the third invasion of the Burmese invasion which caused immense economic sufferings for the people of Assam.
c.) What were the conditions of the treaty of Yandaboo?
Ans. The Treaty of Yandaboo was signed by the British and Burmese army in the year 1826 at Yandaboo. The conditions of the Treaty of Yandaboo were that the Burmese king had to pay compensation to the British, had to give them the districts of Arakan, Tenaserim and Yeh. The Burmese gave up the control of Assam, Cachar and Manipur without any future claim on them.
