He was born into a middle class Tamil family in the island town of Rameswaram in the erstwhile madras state.
The ancestral house where he lived was built in the middle of 19th century. It was a large pucca house made of limestone and brick situated on the mosque street in Rameswaram. His austere father used to avoid all inessential comforts and luxuries. All necessities were provided in terms of food, medicine and clothing. According to him, his childhood was very secure materially and emotionally. He used to eat with his mother sitting on the floor of the kitchen. His mother would place a banana leaf before him on which she ladled rice, aromatic sambar, a variety of sharp, home-made pickle and a dollop of fresh coconut chutney.
v) Curled green twigs is referred to as ‘which’ in the quoted line from poem ‘on killing a tree’.
Curled green twig which grows from the close to the ground turns into miniature bough slowly with time.
Only hacking and chopping cannot kill a tree. It can hurt the bark. The bark het healed with time and from the ground green twigs rise again. The green twigs grow into miniature boughs with time. If the growth remains unchecked then the leaves and branches will grow into its former size again.
vi) The young soldier who is dead has ‘red holes’ by his side.
The two red holes by his side signifies that the soldier has been killed in the war by the attack of two bullets. The wound of two bullets reflects the brutal side of war that snatched the life of young soldier.
The poet has reflected the brutality and futility of war in this poem. He showed how young soldiers sacrifice their lives in the battlefield to protect their country from enemies. After death the young soldier in his deep eternal sleep when nature was protecting and comforting him from any disturbance.
x) Chubukov, Natalya’s father is the speaker of the quoted line from the play ‘the proposal’.
The word merchant is referred to Lomov who came to Chubukov’s house.
The word ‘goods’ refers to Natalya Stepanovna herself for whom Lomov came with marriage proposal.
The speaker intended to convey that lomov came there to propose Natalya Stepanovna for marriage. So, she must be there to receive the proposal.

Grand Celebration of Annual Function of our School:
Our school has celebrated the annual function in grand way with massive arrangements this year. Like every year, our school authority selected the date for annual programme prior at the beginning of academic year. According to the date, all preparations were going on to complete it within due time. All students were extremely excited to be a part of the celebration. Students from all classes were invited to attend every event including in the annual function. Class teachers encouraged all students to take part in events as per their individual interests. Students gave enough time for rehearsals and preparation to perform perfectly on that date. The chairman of state sports association, maharaja of Ramkrishna mission and state school inspector were the chief guests in the annual function. The chairman sir inaugurate the programme by lighting up Diyas. Then they gave valuable speech on stage one by one to encourage students. Students started the programme with their collaborative dance and singing performance. Then there was a colourful and delightful cultural programme including all events like singing, dance, performing arts and play. Students performed in individual and group performances. They performed Rabindra Sangeet and folk dance of Bengal really well. Audience praised their performances with valuable words. All teachers helped and encouraged students really well to feel confident during their performance on stage. At the end, our headmistress gave the completion speech and thanked us all to be cooperative in the entire celebration.
