1.) How did the shakchinni enter the Brahman’s house?
Answer. ABrahman used to live with his wife and mother in his house near a tank. There was a tree on its embankment on which a shakchinni lived on the boughs. Shakchinni was a female ghost with white complexion looks like a white sheet usually and stays in trees. One night his wife had to go to the tank and on her way she got brushed with the she-ghost. Then the ghost got very angry and she captured the wife by her throat, climbed to the tree and thrust her in a hole of a trunk. The woman laid there in almost dead state with fear. The she-ghost put on her clothes and went to the Brahman’s house. Both the Brahman and his mother thought it was his wife returned from the tank. They did not notice any change in her behaviours or actions. The ghost started living the way the Brahman’s wife used to live in his house. Thus, the shakchinni entered the Brahman’s house after hurting his wife.
2.) Who noticed the changes first in the Shakchinni’s behaviour and how?
Answer. The Brahman’s mother knew his wife very well for her gestures, way of working and body language. She knew that her daughter-in-law was very slow, languid and used to long time to complete household chores. But her daughter-in-law seemed to be a different person suddenly. As the she-ghost did all works in the house very quickly with her superpower. She could finish all works in quite short period and the Brahman’s mother was shocked to see her active daughter-in-law. But she suspected nothing initially and started enjoying the sudden change in her behaviour. But she was getting surprised everyday with new ways. The ghost did cooking in short time and could bring anything from the next room in much less time than before. The she ghost used to bring things from the next room or any nearby place just by stretching her arm instead of moving to that place like all other ghosts. She used to lengthen or shorten her hands to bring anything when the Brahman’s mother ordered anything. One day the mother asked her mother-in-law to bring a vessel from some distance. The she ghost stretched her hand unconsciously to some yards of distance and bring it to her. The old woman left struck with such surprising sight. She did not say anything to the ghost that day. She informed her son about it and they both followed behaviours of the ghost attentively.
3.) How did the son and his mother realise it was ghost in his wife’s place?
Answer. The Brahman’s mother noticed the changes in behaviour of her daughter-in-law from the beginning. Like she became much more active than before and used to take short time to finish works of the house. Even she could finish cooking in shorter period. When her mother in law ordered her to bring anything from next room or nearby place she could bring that in less time. Then one day the old woman noticed she stretched her arms few yards distance to bring a vessel. The ghost did it unconsciously but the mother was to utter shock to see that view. He informed this incident to her son and they decided to monitor her behaviour closely. One day the old woman knew that there was no fire in their house. Her daughter-in-law also did not go out to bring wood. But she noticed the hearth of the kitchen was in blaze. She entered the kitchen to see the matter and to her surprise she saw that her daughter-in-law put her leg into oven as fuel for cooking. The Brahman’s mother told him about the incident and they concluded that it was not his wife but a she-ghost.
4.) How did the Ojha help in revealing the Shakchinni?
Answer. Both the Brahman and his mother realised that it was a she ghost in their house in place of his wife after noticing her behaviour. His mother informed him about all the incidents she witnessed and he himself followed her too. After quite long time they both got sure about the fact that it was a she ghost who entered their house. Then they called for an Ojha or exorcist to resolve the issue. When the exorcist came, he wanted to make sure about the first thing if she was a real woman or a ghost. For that purpose he lighted a piece of turmeric and hold it near the nose of that supposed woman. It was an infallible test as no ghost whether male or female can bear the smell of burnt turmeric. At the moment the ojha took the burnt turmeric below her nose the ghost screamed aloud and ran away from their room. It was proved then that she was either a she-ghost or a real woman body possessed by a ghost.
5.) How did the Brahman get his wife back from the Shakchinni’s capture?
Answer. The Brahman called an Ojha finally to get rid of the trouble of the Shakchinni. The ojha revealed by smelling burnt turmeric to the ghost that she was a ghost originally. Then it was turn to bring back the Brahman’s actual wife to home. For that the she ghost was queried to give exact information about his wife. It w sonly she who could give information about his wife. Then the ghost was caught with main power and asked about her identity. Initially, she was not agreed to disclose who she was but the Ojha started beating her with his slippers. Then the ghost revealed in a strong nasal accent like ghosts that she was a Shakchinni lived on a nearby tree on the tank. She had seized the Brahman’s wife in anger and put her inside the hollow of the tree. One night the Brahman’s wife touched her mistakenly so she did that with her. If anyone would reach near the hollow of the tree then he would find the woman there. The woman was released and taken back to home as almost dead condition. The ghost was beaten by shoes again and she declared in pain that she would not do any harm to Brahman and his family. She was released from the ojha’s spell and sent away from there. The Brahman’s wife was recovered slowly and they started living happily thereafter.
